Climate Change, Global Warming, whatever catch phrase you prefer to use, they are not going away. The planet is changing, that, no one can deny. Why it is changing and what can be done to stop it, if anything, is what is constantly being debated.
The current administration rolled out the Clean Power Plan in June of 2014. The plan’s ultimate goal is to cut carbon pollution. Those cuts are coming from quite a few different areas. One of the largest is from the current power plant structure. That means that more renewable energy like wind farms and solar power will be utilized. That also means less coal fired power plants and more combined cycle power plants. What is a combined cycle power plant? Excellent question!
Combined cycle power plants work off a basic principal of burning gas (natural gas) in a gas turbine (GT). It will produce not only power but hot exhaust gases that will be turned into power also. So the plant creates 2 different types of power for the consumers and is more energy efficient.
Since these plants will utilize natural gas, the growth of the natural resource is inevitable over the years of the Clean Power Plan. See the chart below from eia.gov to see the estimated growth of natural gas as an electric generating source in trillion kilowatt-hours.
So once again horizontal drilling in the shale plays here in the United States is the way to go. The oil and gas companies that have been aggressive over the past years will reap the rewards.
Croft Production Systems can help your company to process natural gas in the field. Click the link below to see how any of the 6 units in our main product line can improve your natural gas processing.
