CROFT has started something new this year! As you know Amy Jerina and Jessica Lee have been been writing twice a week for over a year now to bring you the latest and greatest in the oil and gas industry- we will continue to do this, but have decided to add some flavor to the mix. Every week, we will have an additional blog post from a Guest Blogger within the Oil and Gas industry!
This week our Guest Blogger is Mark LaCour, an Expert in the Oil and Gas industry who helps companies generate more sales, increase revenue, and acquire more customers! He is a seasoned professional that combines real sales experience with science!
CROFT took a few bits of Mark’s original post, and highlighted the most interesting drivers to watch for in 2016.
Operational excellence. So, operational excellence got started in the automotive industry. The oil and gas industry has dabbled in operational excellence before, in fact, we did this big long blog post about operational excellence in oil gas. You can find it here. But going forward upstream and the service companies that service upstream are going to have to improve efficiencies. So they’re going to have to change their culture, the way they think about stuff. Things like continuous improvement which may not be embedded in the entire company has got to become core to their business. CROFT can help-view our products!
Gas. Well what else can I say? Natural gas is everywhere. The world has a huge need for natural gas. We’re developing the technologies and infrastructure and place to convert it down to a liquid so we can move it. That’s all the LNG plants are going on. It’s much cleaner much better for the environment. Here and in Europe we’re switching from coal-powered electric plants to natural gas-powered plants. That’s another huge business driver in 2016 is gas. Yes! And for all your natural gas processing needs, we can clean, dehydrate, separate, cool, and condition to pipeline spec!
Export. I should have saw this coming, but I just recently figured this out. Here in the U.S. we use about 20 million barrels a day, but we don’t actually consume 20 million barrels a day. We use 14, the other 6 are exported as refined goods. The U.S. has the most robust, efficient, and largest refining capacity in the world. And when I say refinery most people think fuels – jet fuel, diesel, gasoline. No, think of all the petrochemicals, plastics and fertilizers. Mark is correct…CROFT has been writing about the export of crude oil for over a year now!
Crude prices. We did say over a year ago that we thought crude would get back to $60 a barrel in April. We still are saying that, but now we’re thinking it’s more like August or September of 2016. It will happen in 2016, but it may not go back to the old prices of $90 or $100 a barrel. The industry as a whole will need to learn how to work with the $60 to $75 price range. For most of the industry leaders this is totally fine and that’s going to be another business driver in itself.
