Yannelyz:
We’re back here with Chris to talk about acid and sour gas today. So Chris, what is acid gas?
What is Acid Gas?
Chris:
Acid gas refers to a hydrocarbon stream where the components that are in the gas contain CO2 and also some amount of H2S.
Yannelyz:
What is sour gas?
What is Sour Gas?
Chris:
Sour gas is a natural gas stream that just contains H2S in the gas. Now sometimes these terms are used interchangeable, and acid gas can mean just CO2 or a combination of both. But when we refer to sour gas, we’re really just talking about H2S.
Yannelyz:
Why are these two dangerous?
Why are H2S and CO2 dangerous?
Chris:
H2S and CO2 are both corrosive, so we usually want to remove these to protect pipelines and equipment so that they don’t damage it. But H2S is especially dangerous because it can be very corrosive to pipelines or equipment, but it’s also very deadly. So normally, we want to remove this pretty early on in the process to protect personnel.
Yannelyz:
What equipment does CROFT offer that can remove H2S and CO2?
What equipment does CROFT offer that can remove H2S and CO2?
Chris:
For removing both of them, high amounts or bulk removal, we have our Amine plant. An Amine plant does a great job, and it can target both these CO2 or H2S, but if you’re looking for just H2S removal, we offer our Iron Oxide System, which is a solid consumable that neutralizes the H2S. And we also have our Chemical Injection System, which uses a liquid scavenger to neutralize the H2S. And those two systems are usually better for small than maybe medium amounts of H2S in the gas stream.
Yannelyz:
Thank you so much for explaining that, Chris, and join us in our next video. Bye.
